The Federal Government has distributed nearly 1.9 million bags of fertiliser to close to one million farmers across the country in the past two years as part of efforts to boost local food production and strengthen national food security.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, disclosed this in Abuja during the Ministry’s Quarterly Stakeholder Engagement.

Kyari said the fertiliser distribution forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to support farmers, increase agricultural productivity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on food imports.

The engagement brought together stakeholders from across the agricultural value chain, including members of the media, civil society organisations, farmer associations, agro-allied groups, professional bodies, development partners and donor agencies.

According to the minister, the forum was organised to review the ministry’s performance, strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders and gather recommendations aimed at helping Nigeria achieve food sovereignty.

He added that the ministry remains committed to implementing policies and programmes that will improve food availability, support farmers and enhance the resilience of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
