The Lagos State Government has staged the fifth edition of the Lagos Food Festival as part of efforts to stimulate growth across the food economy and strengthen linkages within the agricultural value chain.
Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, the one-day festival took place on Sunday at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, and attracted a wide range of food vendors, caterers, chefs and other players within Lagos’ vibrant agri-food ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu applauded the ministry for its consistent interventions aimed at improving food security, empowering entrepreneurs and expanding opportunities for businesses operating in the agriculture and food space.
According to the governor, the Lagos Food Festival has become one of the flagship programmes of the ministry, reflecting the impact of its various initiatives throughout the year. He noted that the state has continued to support innovators, aggregators and small businesses in the food industry, creating platforms for them to grow and compete.
Sanwo-Olu explained that beyond business, the festival also provides an avenue for families to come together and experience the richness of Lagos’ diverse food culture. He said food remains a powerful tool for storytelling, creativity and economic inclusion, especially for young talents seeking opportunities in the culinary and hospitality sectors.
“Through this festival, we are encouraging those in the catering and food business while also using food to showcase the Lagos story our culture, skills and creativity. It is about opening doors for smart ideas, nurturing talents and transforming businesses,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, said the festival was designed to create value and opportunities for stakeholders across the entire food chain.
She explained that the Lagos Food Festival, themed Taste Without Borders 2025, evolved from the Lagos Seafood Festival and has grown into a broader celebration of the state’s culinary heritage. According to her, the event highlights Lagos’ traditions, cuisine, entertainment and the dynamic spirit that defines the state.
The fifth edition of the festival further reinforced Lagos State’s commitment to using food as a driver of economic growth, cultural promotion and inclusive development within the agricultural sector.
